Job summary

Defense Unicorns is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, implement, and deploy mission-critical software in a remote US environment. You’ll work closely with product managers, designers, and end users to ensure solutions meet needs while upholding security and reliability.

You will influence architecture, mentor engineers, and participate in an on-call rotation to support production systems. This role emphasizes cloud-native development, IaC tooling, and collaboration across open-source

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience using Git and GitHub in collaborative environments.
• Experience building and operating software products.
• Proficiency in Golang and/or TypeScript.
• Experience with infrastructure as code using OpenTofu or Terraform.
• Strong understanding of system design, APIs, databases, and cloud architecture (AWS/Azure).
• Experience developing CLIs, Kubernetes Operators, and/or OpenTofu providers is a plus.
• Familiar with Core Kubernetes concepts including Controllers, Operators, and CRDs.
• Experience contributing to or collaborating with Open Source projects is a plus.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, comfortable conveying technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and end users to build the right solutions.
• Lead design, implementation, and deployment of features and systems with clear architecture decisions.
• Work with internal and open source communities on feature requests and bug fixes.
• Own the technical quality of the engineering team's work and provide mentorship.
• Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation for incident response and resolution.
• Integrate software with existing defense systems ensuring interoperability and security.
• Develop comprehensive design docs, user manuals, and maintenance guides.
• Stay updated on new tech and industry trends to drive product improvements.
• Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Deliver secure, cloud-native software products across regulated environments.
