Job summary

Coinbase seeks a Senior Staff Software Engineer for the Exchange team to set architectural direction for matching, order management, and market data. Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with ownership of production trading, exchange, or market-data systems.
• Deep expertise in low-latency distributed systems and backend languages (Java/C/Go) with JVM/Linux performance tuning.
• Proven architectural ownership of end-to-end trading platforms across components.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical strategy and architecture for a core Exchange domain, driving multi-quarter initiatives.
• Lead design of ultra-low-latency, event-sourced trading systems across matching, risk, and market data.
• Drive cross-team alignment across Exchange, Prime, and Derivatives with senior leadership.
• Set quality bar across teams with deterministic testing, failover design, and 24/7 operational standards.
• Maintain hands-on contribution while leading execution through other senior engineers.
• Mentor L5-L6 engineers and build the next rung of technical leadership.
