Job summary

Hopper Inc. is seeking a senior full stack engineer to anchor HTS Assist, Hopper's AI assistant for travel. You will own the realtime and voice layer end-to-end while building React/TypeScript front ends, Scala and Python services, and cloud infrastructure on GCP/AWS.

You will drive multi-tenant design, safety/compliance, and high-availability deployments. The role emphasizes ownership, rapid iteration, and strong cross-functional collaboration with product, design, and operations teams.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software engineering experience with senior-level ownership of production systems and full-stack range.
• Hands-on realtime systems experience (voice apps, WebRTC/SIP, streaming media or low-latency products).
• Strength in a modern front end (React, TypeScript) and depth on the backend (Scala or Python), with cloud infra on GCP or AWS.
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining RESTful APIs, microservices, or event-driven systems.
• Familiarity with AI coding tools as a standard part of workflow, with ability to review, correct, and own releases.
• Operable-systems mindset: SLAs, observability, on-call rotations, rollback plans.
• Ability to break down complex problems, make pragmatic tradeoffs, and ship iteratively with cross-functional communication.
• Bonus: Conversational AI/LLM orchestration, including speech tech like Deepgram, ElevenLabs, Whisper, OpenAI Realtime.
• Bonus: cloud telephony / CPaaS platforms like Twilio, Amazon Connect, Genesys, LiveKit.
• Bonus: experience building customer service, CRM, or workflow automation tools.
• Familiarity with travel tech (PSS/GDS, hotel PMS/CRS) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Own the voice channel end to end, including telephony and CPaaS integrations, streaming STT and TTS, real-time model orchestration, and latency/quality budgets.
• Build features across the stack: React/TypeScript front ends, Scala/Python services, and GCP/AWS infrastructure.
• Design for multi-tenant scale with one codebase serving many partners via configuration.
• Build safety/compliance plumbing with guardrails, content filtering, and PII redaction points.
• Maintain revenue-critical deployments through observability, alerts, and incident response.
• Enable platform capabilities for partner telephony integrations and go-lives.
• Raise engineering bar through code reviews, architecture reviews, and mentoring.
