Job summary

Electric Power Engineers, LLC is seeking an experienced protection engineer to perform power system studies and protection coordination for transmission and generation facilities. The role focuses on DFR, SCADA, and disturbance monitoring in support of NERC and regional standards.

The candidate should have a strong background in protection engineering, familiarity with industry tools, and ability to mentor junior engineers while delivering quality client deliverables remotely from Canada.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power system engineering.
• 4–5 years of experience in power system protection, engineering studies, or related consulting.
• Strong understanding of protection principles, relays, short-circuit analysis, and protection coordination.
• Experience with inverter-based resources (IBRs) including solar, wind, and storage systems.
• Familiarity with DFR, disturbance monitoring, SCADA, and substation communications.
• Experience with ASPEN OneLiner, CAPE, ETAP, PSSE, PSCAD, SEL Quickset, GE Enervista UR.

Responsibilities

• Perform protection studies using ETAP/OneLiner for transmission and generation facilities.
• Review existing protection systems, relay settings, and coordination to identify issues.
• Evaluate DFR/SCADA and disturbance monitoring against regulatory requirements.
• Assess DDR and disturbance monitoring capabilities and recommend improvements.
• Support NERC compliance activities and related standards.
• Lead projects and mentor junior engineers on protection engineering best practices.
