Job summary

Electric Power Engineers, LLC is seeking a power systems protection engineer to help design the grid of the future. You will perform protection studies, coordinate relays, and support NERC compliance for high‑voltage transmission and generation facilities.

The role requires 4–5 years of experience and proficiency with ETAP/OneLiner/CAPE/PSSE/PSCAD, plus mentorship of junior engineers. We offer comprehensive benefits and an Employee Ownership program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or higher in Electric Engineering with focus on power systems.
• 4-5 years of experience in power system protection or related consulting.
• Strong understanding of protection principles, relays, short-circuit, and coordination.
• Experience with inverter-based resources (IBRs) incl. solar, wind, and storage.
• Familiarity with DFR, disturbance monitoring, SCADA, and substation comms.
• Experience with protection software: Aspen OneLiner, CAPE, ETAP, PSSE, PSCAD, SEL Quickset.
• Experience with SEL equipment and programming with SEL Quickset.
• Understanding of NERC reliability standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform protection studies using software (ETAP, ASPEN OneLiner) including short-circuit analysis and protection coordination for transmission and generation.
• Review and evaluate existing protection systems, relay settings, and coordination practices.
• Evaluate DFR, SCADA, and substation monitoring systems against regulatory requirements.
• Conduct gap assessments of disturbance monitoring systems and recommend improvements.
• Support clients in NERC compliance activities (PRC standards).
• Prepare engineering calculations and manage budget, schedule, quality; lead projects and delegate tasks.
• Provide mentorship to junior engineers on protection engineering best practices.
• Develop and maintain process docs and flow charts.
• Lead process improvement to enhance efficiency and deliverables quality.
