Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to keep the NBA platform healthy, reliable, and maintainable. You will work across Java, Node.js, Python, and SQL stacks, improve reliability, and implement focused features while preserving clear, well-documented code.

This hands-on role emphasizes system understanding and long-term platform health. The role involves on-call responsibilities, performance tuning, and collaborating with delivery pods and Decision Intelligence to own long-term

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Comfortable with Java, Node.js/TypeScript, Python, and SQL.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems and failure handling.
• Hands-on observability: logging, metrics, tracing, alerts.
• Experience on Azure or equivalent with containers/Kubernetes and CI/CD.
• Maintenance mindset: operational health and clean code as first-class work.
• Clear communicator able to explain complex systems to engineers and non-engineers.

Responsibilities

• Cross-Stack Maintenance - maintain and support services across the platform.
• Reliability Engineering - monitor health, investigate production issues, resolve bottlenecks.
• Feature Implementation - design and ship focused features across components.
• Observability - extend logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
• Performance and scale - profile and tune components under load for growth.
• Quality - write tests, review code, uphold standards.
• Incident response - participate in on-call rotation and root-cause analysis.
• Collaboration - work with delivery pods and Decision Intelligence.
