Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to keep the NBA platform healthy, reliable, and maintainable long-term. You will own end-to-end collaboration across Java/Drools, React/Node/Postgres stacks, Kafka, and Databricks pipelines, with hands-on responsibility for reliability and performance.

You will work across cross-functional pods, implement scalable features, and improve observability, incident response, and platform health in a remote/hybrid environment with occasional travel.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Ability to read, debug, and extend Java, Node.js/TypeScript, Python, and SQL.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, and failure handling.
• Experience with observability: logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
• Experience operating services on cloud infrastructure (Azure or equivalent) with Kubernetes/CI/CD.
• Maintenance mindset: healthy, well-documented code and reliable uptime.
• Clear communicator able to explain complex systems to engineers and non-engineers.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and support services across the full platform; keep components current.
• Monitor health, investigate production issues, and resolve bottlenecks and scaling constraints.
• Design and ship focused features and improvements across platform components.
• Extend logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting for clear production visibility.
• Profile and tune components under load to scale with user growth.
• Write tests, participate in code reviews, and uphold engineering standards.
• Participate in on-call rotation and root-cause analysis for durable fixes.
• Collaborate with delivery pods and Decision Intelligence for long-term ownership.
