Job summary

American Health Network (AHN), part of the Optum family, is seeking a Senior Medical Billing Specialist to manage physician billing and AR across multiple offices. This full-time role offers telecommuting from anywhere in the U.S. within normal business hours and occasional overtime as needed.

The position requires 3+ years in health care billing, ICD-10-CM/CPT/HCPCS proficiency, and strong analytical skills. Training is provided and a supportive team environment is emphasized.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent work experience.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• 3+ years in health care billing and collections or equivalent setting.
• 3+ years using ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS codes.
• 3+ years researching complex insurance receivables and denials.
• 3+ years working with major third-party payers and payer websites.
• 3+ years interpreting EOBs and remittance information.
• Ability to work full-time with flexible shifts 8:00 am - 4:30 pm EST.

Responsibilities

• Manage a large inventory of insurance receivables including aging, denied, and underpaid accounts.
• Research account history, eligibility, benefits, coding, authorization, and payer requirements.
• Refile corrected claims, submit appeals, and follow-up through final disposition.
• Analyze EOBs and remittance activity; reconcile statements and balances.
• Initiate contact with payers, patients, and internal partners to resolve issues.
• Explain patient financial liability and process payments and payment plans.
• Maintain notes and documentation in the billing system and EHR.
• Support onboarding and knowledge sharing on payer portals and workflows.
