Job summary

American Health Network (AHN), part of the Optum family, is seeking a Senior Biller for full-time, remote work within the United States. You will manage a large portfolio of insurance receivables, research payer requirements, and file appeals to maximize reimbursement.

The role reports to the Business Office Supervisor and requires 3+ years in healthcare billing, plus proficiency with ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS codes and EHR systems. Telecommute from anywhere in the U.S.; EST business hours apply.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma / GED OR equivalent work experience
• Must be 18 years of age OR older
• 3+ years of current experience in a health care billing and collections environment OR a relevant health care setting using an accounting OR health care computer system
• 3+ years of experience utilizing ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes
• 3+ years of experience researching and resolving complex insurance receivables, denials, underpayments, appeals, and aging accounts
• 3+ years of experience working with major third‑party payers, insurance plans, payer websites, billing requirements, and timely filing rules
• 3+ years of experience demonstrating the ability to interpret EOBs, remittance information, physician billing statements, payer correspondence, and patient account activity
• Proficiency with basic PC applications, internet research, and health care billing systems
• Ability to work full time. Flexibility to work any shift 8:00 am - 4:30 pm EST; occasional overtime

Responsibilities

• Manage a significant inventory of insurance receivables, including aging and high-dollar accounts
• Research account history, eligibility, benefits, coding, authorization, and payer requirements
• Ref iled claims, prepare and submit appeals, provide additional medical documentation, and follow up through final resolution
• Analyze and reconcile EOBs, remittance activity, payer correspondence, and patient statements
• Initiate contact with payers, patients, and internal partners to reach resolution
• Explain patient financial liability and EOB information; process payments and payment plans
• Review account activity for accuracy and take corrective action
• Provide guidance to billing team on complex accounts and payer websites
• Support onboarding and knowledge sharing related to payer websites and workflows
• Identify recurring denial trends and communicate findings for process improvement
• Maintain complete and timely account notes in billing systems and EHR
• Prioritize work to meet productivity and quality targets in a fast-paced environment
• Adhere to billing guidelines, contracts, and privacy requirements
• Demonstrate dependability and strong customer service
