UnitedHealth Group—Optum is seeking a Senior Inpatient Medical Coder for a remote role. The position involves coding inpatient hospital services, maintaining high quality and productivity, and supporting enrollment with providers.

Training is provided and telecommuting is supported from anywhere in the U.S. Candidates should have AHIMA/AAPC credentials, 3+ years inpatient coding, and 2+ years in Level 2+ trauma centers with DRG experience.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Professional coder credentialing with AHIMA and/or AAPC (RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CCS-P/CPC) maintained annually
• 3+ years acute care inpatient medical coding experience
• 2+ years in Level 2+ trauma center and/or teaching hospital with complex procedures
• 2+ years ICD-10-CM/PCS and DRG coding experience
• Ability to pass pre-employment requirements including drug screen and background check

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient hospital services and assess impact on DRG
• Abstract additional data during chart review as needed
• Adhere to AHIMA/AAPC ethical standards for coding
• Maintain coding quality and productivity at required levels
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate
• Keep up-to-date coding knowledge with QM Manager and Directors
• Participate in coding department meetings and educational events
• Review and maintain records of charts coded, on-hold, or missing
