Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks a Senior Inpatient Medical Coder to provide ICD-10-CM/PCS coding services for inpatient hospital stays in a remote role. You will ensure documentation aligns with guidelines, maintain high quality and productivity, and collaborate with providers for clarifications.

The position offers training, flexible telecommuting from anywhere in the U.S., and opportunities to stay current with coding standards and client guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or higher.
• Professional coder certification with AHIMA or AAPC credentialing renewed annually.
• 3+ years Acute Care inpatient coding experience in hospital settings.
• 2+ years in Level 2+ trauma centers or teaching hospitals with complex cases.
• 2+ years of ICD-10-CM/PCS and DRG coding experience.

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient hospital services and DRG impact.
• Abstract data elements during chart reviews when coding as needed.
• Maintain coding ethics per AHIMA and/or AAPC guidelines.
• Meet performance levels for coding quality and productivity.
• Provide documentation feedback and query physicians when needed.
• Keep up-to-date coding knowledge from QM Manager and Directors.
• Participate in coding department meetings and educational events.
• Review and maintain charts coded, held, or missing.
