Job summary

UnitedHealth Group's Optum unit seeks an experienced medical coder for inpatient coding. You will assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for hospital services and ensure DRG alignment, maintaining accuracy and compliance.

This role emphasizes AHIMA/AAPC guidelines, with remote work within the U.S. and a Mon-Fri schedule, supporting a broad health network.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years inpatient coding, DRG experience, and a track record of coding accuracy and productivity.

Qualifications

• Professional coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC (RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CIC).
• 3+ years of Acute Care Inpatient coding experience.
• 3+ years of DRG coding with complex procedures (cardiac cath, complex cardiology, interventional radiology, ortho, neuro).
• 3+ years of ICD-10-PCS procedure coding.

Responsibilities

• Identify ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient services and assess DRG impact against guidelines.
• Abstract additional data during Chart Review as needed.
• Adhere to coding ethics per AAPC/AHIMA.
• Maintain performance in coding quality and productivity per Optum360.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate.
• Keep coding knowledge up to date via QM Manager and Directors of Coding/Quality.
• Participate in coding department meetings and educational events.
• Review and track charts coded, held, or missing.
