Job summary

UnitedHealth Group seeks an experienced Senior Inpatient Medical Coder to deliver ICD-10-CM/PCS coding for hospital inpatient services. This remote role requires strong organization, self-motivation, and familiarity with coding guidelines, with training conducted virtually for four weeks.

Ideal candidates have AHIMA or AAPC credentials and 3+ years of acute care inpatient coding, including DRG assignment and complex procedures. Telecommuting within the U.S.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.
• Professional coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or CPC-H).
• 3+ years of Acute Care inpatient medical coding experience.
• 2+ years in Level 2+ trauma center or teaching hospital with complex procedures.
• 2+ years of ICD-10-CM/PCS and DRG coding experience.

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient hospital services and DRG impact.
• Abstract additional data elements during chart review when coding.
• Adhere to AHIMA/APAC coding ethics and guidelines.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity per Optum360 standards.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate.
• Keep up-to-date coding knowledge via QM Manager and Director/QA materials.
• Participate in coding department meetings and trainings.
• Review and maintain charts coded, held, or missing.
