Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Senior Inpatient Medical Coder to deliver coding services remotely. The role requires self‑starter organization, strong knowledge of ICD‑10, observation coding, and infusions/injections, with a focus on accurate documentation and adherence to AHIMA/AAPC standards.

The position offers full-time hours, competitive benefits, and telecommuting from anywhere in the U.S. prior experience in a remote setting is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• AHIMA or AAPC coding credentials (RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CCS-P/CPC or CPC-H).
• 5+ years of coding experience.
• 2+ years of outpatient facility and professional coding experience.
• 2+ years of Observation Coding and I&I Coding experience.
• 2+ years of ICD-10 experience.
• Intermediate proficiency with Windows, MS Excel and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate ICD-10-CDM codes and CPT-4 codes for hospital observation services.
• Abstract data elements during chart review for coding as needed.
• Adhere to coding standards per AAPC/AHIMA and Optum360.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity targets.
• Code infusions and injections per guidelines and hierarchy.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate.
• Stay current with coding knowledge via supervisor materials.
