Job summary

Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, is seeking a skilled Inpatient DRG Coder to ensure accurate ICD-10-CM/PCS coding for facility services. This full-time role offers normal business hours with potential overtime and the flexibility to telecommute from anywhere in the U.S.

You will adhere to official guidelines, maintain coding quality, and collaborate with physicians. Requirements include AHIMA/AAPC certifications, at least three years of inpatient DRG coding, and proficiency with Excel and EMR

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Professional AHIMA and/or AAPC coding certification required.
• 3+ years inpatient DRG coding in an acute care facility.
• 3+ years ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS and DRG coding using encoder.
• Proficiency with Windows PC and Microsoft Excel; familiarity with EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Identify assignment of ICD-10-CM/ICD-10-PCS, DRG, and abstraction per guidelines.
• Expert knowledge in Inpatient DRG Coding.
• Abstract data during chart reviews; maintain coding quality.
• Maintain ethical coding standards per AAPC/AHIMA.
• Support performance metrics for coding quality and productivity.
• Query physicians when appropriate.
• Participate in department meetings and training.
• Additional responsibilities as assigned.
