Job summary

Ad Hoc LLC is seeking a Senior Software Engineer - Front End/ Back End for a remote role supporting federal civilian projects. You will contribute as an experienced individual contributor and mentor others while collaborating with stakeholders to deliver scalable software.

The role requires deep expertise in frontend and/or backend stacks, including Angular, Java, Python, and Spring Boot 4, plus cloud and CI/CD practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Demonstrates expert-level knowledge in frontend (Angular, JavaScript, HTML/CSS) or backend (Python, Java 21, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch).
• Demonstrates expert-level knowledge with Spring Boot 4 framework.
• Strong working knowledge of containerized microservices and AWS services (ECS, RDS, S3, Lambda, CloudWatch).
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code using Terraform.
• Experience building and consuming versioned RESTful APIs with published OpenAPI specifications.
• Hands‑on experience with CI/CD pipelines in GitLab and version control via Git.
• Working knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards and their application to frontend or backend development.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to translate technical decisions for non‑technical audiences including federal agency stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Senior Software Engineer - Front End/ Back End serves as an experienced individual contributor within a team, with the expectation that you will further develop your leadership, guidance and mentoring skills.
• With minimal oversight from leadership, you will be responsible for supporting the goal of meeting scope, schedule and delivery requirements.
• A Senior Software Engineer - Front End/ Back End impacts the long-term goals of the program, while contributing to the implementation of the program’s development strategy.
• You may serve as the discipline’s primary lead when working with stakeholders and utilize strong influential skills to drive improvements in software engineering processes and practices.
• Primary expectations include: ownership of contributions, coordinating with related systems, diagnosing and resolving issues, mentoring juniors, and presenting designs to clients and engineers.
