Job summary

Applied Engineering, a Midwest engineering consultancy, is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer for remote work. You will lead design and validation across major subsystems, translate requirements into robust electrical solutions, and own all drawings and BOMs.

You will mentor junior engineers, drive design reviews, and support project planning. Candidates should have 5+ years in industrial electrical design, NEC/UL familiarity, and tool proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, and SKM.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering required.
• 5+ years of industrial experience in electrical design or electromechanical systems.
• Strong knowledge of power distribution, conversion, monitoring, controls, and system integration.
• Experience designing specifications for switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, loadbanks, and generators.
• Experience selecting and validating electrical components using NEC, UL, and industry derating criteria.
• Proven experience with design documentation, reviews, testing, validation, and troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of design standards, manufacturability, safety, and compliance practices.
• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations for electrical power solutions.
• Ability to specify safe and effective prototype testing practices.
• Experience with ERP/PLM and engineering data management systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design and validation for major subsystems and product areas.
• Translate system requirements into practical, robust electrical designs.
• Own schematics, drawings, calculations, specifications, and bills of material.
• Drive design reviews, trade studies, prototype builds, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with mechanical, systems, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and project teams.
• Mentor early‑career engineers and reinforce electrical design standards.
• Support project planning, effort estimation, and execution.
• Contribute to projects that impact communities across North America.
