Job summary

McMillen, Inc. seeks a Senior Dam Safety Engineer – FERC IC to support federally regulated hydroelectric projects nationwide. A PE license, extensive FERC Part 12D experience, and strong client relations are essential for this remote role with flexible hours.

You will lead dam safety analyses, manage projects and deliverables, mentor staff, and collaborate with regulators, clients, and teams to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering (MS preferred).
• Active PE license in good standing required.
• 15+ years consulting with FERC Part 12D and dam safety work.
• Experience as FERC Independent Consultant or CDSE eligibility.
• PMFA/L2RA facilitator on FERC-regulated projects or eligible.
• Strong knowledge of federal/state dam safety standards and guidelines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; proposal development skills.
• Proficient with AutoCAD, GeoStudio, AllPile, Rocscience and HEC-RAS.

Responsibilities

• Perform dam safety work including FERC Part 12D inspections and CDSE services.
• Lead PFMA and L2RA workshops for dam safety risk analysis.
• Oversee hydrological, geotechnical, and structural dam evaluations.
• Prepare and review DSSMRs, O&M Manuals, PSPs, ODSPs, EAPs, STI docs.
• Manage clients, projects, and deliverables with timelines and budgets.
• Provide dam safety training and lead EAP exercises with clients.
• Present findings to clients, regulators, and boards; advise on actions.
• Lead remedial designs for earthfill/concrete dams and related structures.
• Mentor junior staff on dam safety topics and techniques.
• Assist in project marketing, proposals, cost estimating, scheduling.
