Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Configuration Analyst to support VA applications and lead cloud migration efforts. You will develop and maintain CM tools, enforce build and deployment standards, and guide developers on CM practices across multiple programs.

The role requires deep CM expertise, strong collaboration with stakeholders, and mentoring of junior analysts while ensuring compliant, repeatable release processes in a federal environment.

Qualifications

• Proven track record delivering complex software builds/releases across multiple environments.
• Experience in regulated or federal environments.
• Deep expertise in software configuration management and release engineering.
• Broad knowledge of development, QA, systems engineering, and DevOps.
• Experience with CM practices (identification, baselining, change control, status accounting).
• Experience with source control systems (Git, GitLab, GitHub, Azure DevOps Repos, Subversion) and branching/merging strategies.
• Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitHub Actions) and artifact repositories (Nexus, Artifactory).
• Experience with scripting for automation (Bash, PowerShell, Python).
• Experience managing COTS software, vendor patches, and version control.
• Experience with IaC and environment management (Ansible and Terraform).
• Knowledge of software quality standards, governance frameworks, and training developers on CM tools/quality practices.
• Proficiency with work management tools (JIRA, Azure Boards, Trello) and documentation tools (Confluence, Visio, Lucidchart).
• Understanding of database concepts, dependency management, and build reproducibility.
• Strong analytical skills for investigating build failures and deployment issues.
• Excellent communication skills; ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to mentor and collaborate across teams.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

• Support VA applications and spearhead migration to the cloud.
• Develop and maintain CM tools for configuration identification, control, reporting, and delivery of software and COTS products.
• Perform CM and release engineering tasks ensuring documentation, standard hardware configurations, and logistically sustainable releases.
• Design, develop, automate, and maintain productivity tools to improve modeling and development.
• Design and implement build procedures to support software development and use.
• Develop software configuration standards for company-wide use.
• Train software developers in CM tools and quality standards.
• Provide technical guidance and solutions to complex problems.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders; lead and mentor junior analysts/engineers.
