Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Configuration Engineer to lead software builds and releases within VA projects. The role focuses on CM tools, process standardization, and cloud migration across multiple environments.

The candidate will guide junior engineers, collaborate with stakeholders, and ensure robust, auditable build and deployment practices in a remote U.S. based setting.

Qualifications

• Experience with CM and release engineering in regulated environments.
• Experience with CM practices (identification, baselining, change control, status accounting).
• Experience with source control systems and branching/merging strategies (Git, Subversion, GitHub/GitLab).
• Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitHub Actions) and artifact repositories (Nexus, Artifactory).
• Scripting for automation (Bash, PowerShell, Python).
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Ansible, Terraform) and environment management.
• Knowledge of QA, governance frameworks, and training developers on CM tools.

Responsibilities

• Support VA applications and migrate to the cloud.
• Develop and maintain CM tools for identification, control, reporting, and delivery of software assets.
• Perform CM and release tasks ensuring parameters align with hardware configurations and are logistically sustainable.
• Build productivity tools via programming, database, or scripting to improve modeling and development.
• Design and implement build procedures for software product development and use.
• Develop company-wide software configuration standards.
• Train developers in CM tools and quality standards.
• Provide technical guidance and solutions to complex problems.
• Operate autonomously and make sound decisions.
• Ensure compliant, repeatable build and deployment processes across projects.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead and train junior analysts/engineers in CM best practices.
