Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Senior Configuration Engineer to lead software configuration management and release engineering for VA projects. This remote role requires delivering complex builds across environments and guiding junior engineers.

The position emphasizes CM tool development, automation, and adherence to standards, with collaboration across stakeholders and a focus on timely, compliant deployments.

Qualifications

• Experience leading complex software builds and releases across multiple environments.
• Deep expertise in software configuration management and release engineering.
• Knowledge of development, QA, systems engineering, and DevOps.
• Experience with CM practices: identification, baselining, change control, status accounting.
• Experience with source control systems and branching/merging strategies.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and artifact repositories.
• Scripting for automation (Bash, PowerShell, Python).

Responsibilities

• Support VA applications and migrate to the cloud.
• Develop and maintain CM tools for identification, control, reporting, and delivery of software (internal and COTS).
• Perform CM and release tasks ensuring documentation, compliant hardware configurations, and sustainability.
• Design, develop, automate, and maintain productivity tools to improve software development.
• Create build procedures to support product development and use.
• Develop software CM standards for company-wide use.
• Train developers in CM tools and quality standards.
• Provide technical guidance for complex problems.
• Operate autonomously and meet deadlines.
• Ensure compliant, repeatable build/deploy processes across projects.
• Collaborate with stakeholders
• Lead and train junior analysts/engineers in CM best practices.
