Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) seeks a Senior Configuration Engineer to lead software configuration management and release practices for VA projects. This remote, full-time role emphasizes cloud migration, build automation, IaC, and cross-team collaboration.

Qualified candidates will have deep CM expertise in regulated environments, strong communication, and the ability to mentor staff. U.S. citizenship and Public Trust (MBI) clearance are required for consideration.

Qualifications

Experience leading and delivering complex software builds and releases.
Experience in regulated or federal environments.
Deep CM and release engineering expertise.
Broad knowledge of development, QA, systems engineering, and DevOps.
Experience with CM practices: identification, baselining, change control, status accounting.
Experience with source control systems: Git/GitHub/GitLab/Azure DevOps/Subversion; branching/merging.
Experience with CI/CD tools: Jenkins/Azure Pipelines/GitHub Actions; artifact repositories Nexus/Artifactory.
Scripting for automation: Bash/PowerShell/Python.
Experience managing COTS software, patches, and version control.
IaC and environment management: Ansible and Terraform.
Knowledge of software quality standards, governance, and training on CM tools.
Proficient with JIRA/Azure Boards/Trello and Confluence/Visio/Lucidchart.
Understanding of databases, dependency management, and build reproducibility.
Strong analytical skills for build failures and deployment issues.
Excellent communication and ability to translate concepts for non-technical stakeholders; mentoring.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environments; meet deadlines.
Commitment to continuous improvement and staying current with DevOps technologies.

Responsibilities

Support VA applications and migrate to the cloud.
Develop and maintain CM tools for configuration identification, control, reporting, and delivery of software and COTS.
Perform CM and release engineering tasks to document and ensure compliant builds.
Design, develop, automate, and maintain productivity tools to improve software modeling and development.
Design and implement build procedures to support product development and use.
Develop software configuration standards for company-wide use.
Train developers in CM tools and software quality standards.
Provide technical guidance and solutions to complex problems.
Operate autonomously and make sound decisions.
Ensure compliant, repeatable build and deployment processes across projects.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
Lead and train junior analysts/engineers in CM best practices.
