Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) seeks aSenior Configuration Engineer to drive software configuration management for VA applications. You will lead CM practices, build deployment processes, and mentor junior staff while collaborating with stakeholders in a 100% U.S. remote setting.

The role requires deep CM expertise, experience in regulated environments, and strong scripting and DevOps skills. Public Trust clearance is required or eligible.

Qualifications

• A proven track record delivering complex software builds and releases across multiple environments.
• Experience in large, regulated enterprises or federal environments; CM and release engineering expert.
• Broad knowledge of development, QA, systems engineering, and DevOps.
• Experience with CM practices: identification, baselining, change control, status accounting.
• Proficiency with source control systems and branching/merging strategies.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and artifact repositories.
• Scripting for automation (Bash, PowerShell, Python).
• Experience managing COTS software and vendor patches.
• Infrastructure as code and environment management (Ansible, Terraform).
• Knowledge of software quality standards, governance, and training developers on CM tools.

Responsibilities

• Support VA applications and migrate to the cloud.
• Develop and maintain CM tools for identification, control, reporting, and delivery of software.
• Perform CM and release engineering tasks ensuring documentation and config alignment.
• Design, develop, automate, and maintain productivity tools for software modeling and development.
• Design and implement build procedures to support product development and use.
• Develop CM standards for company-wide use.
• Train developers in CM tools and quality practices and provide guidance.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead and mentor junior analysts/engineers in CM best practices.
• Ensure repeatable, compliant build and deployment processes across projects.
