Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) seeks a Senior Configuration Engineer to lead software configuration management and release engineering for VA projects. The role focuses on CM tool development, build standardization, and cloud migration guidance. You will mentor junior staff and collaborate with stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

This is a 100% U.S. based remote position with a W-2 arrangement. A Public Trust (MBI) clearance is required and prior federal experience is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Experience leading software builds and releases across multiple environments.
• Experience in regulated or federal environments.
• Deep expertise in software configuration management and release engineering.
• Broad knowledge of development, QA, systems engineering, and DevOps.
• Experience with CM practices (identification, baselining, change control, status accounting).
• Experience with source control systems and branching strategies.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and artifact repositories.
• Scripting for automation (Bash, PowerShell, Python).
• Experience managing COTS software, vendor patches, and version control.
• Infrastructure as code and environment management (Ansible, Terraform).
• Knowledge of software quality standards, governance frameworks, and training developers on CM tools.

Responsibilities

• Support VA applications and migration to the cloud.
• Develop and maintain CM tools for identification, control, reporting, and delivery of software products.
• Perform CM and release engineering tasks to ensure compliant build parameters and deployment readiness.
• Design, develop, automate, and maintain productivity tools to improve modeling and development.
• Create build procedures to support software product development and use.
• Develop software configuration standards for company-wide use.
• Train developers in CM tools and quality standards.
• Provide technical guidance for complex problems.
• Operate autonomously and meet deadlines across projects.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and mentor junior analysts/engineers.
