Job summary

Syms Strategic Group, LLC (SSG) seeks a Senior Configuration Engineer for a 100% remote, U.S.-based role within the Veterans Affairs department. The position requires strong CM and release engineering skills, with a Public Trust (MBI) clearance and a bachelor’s degree plus substantial experience in regulated environments.

You will lead CM tool development, manage builds, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliant, repeatable deployment

Qualifications

• Proven track record leading complex software builds and releases across multiple environments.
• Experience in large, regulated enterprises or federal environments.
• Deep expertise in CM and release engineering.
• Broad knowledge of development, QA, systems engineering, and DevOps.
• Experience with CM practices: identification, baselining, change control, status accounting.
• Experience with source control systems and branching/merging strategies.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and artifact repositories.
• Experience with scripting for automation.
• Experience with Infrastructure as code and environment management.

Responsibilities

• Support VA applications and migrate to the cloud.
• Develop and maintain CM tools to support identification, control, reporting, and delivery of software.
• Perform CM and release tasks to ensure compliant, repeatable builds and deployments.
• Design, develop, automate, and maintain productivity tools for software modeling and development.
• Lead build procedures and establish software configuration standards across the company.
• Train developers in CM tools and quality practices.
• Provide guidance and solutions to complex technical problems.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and mentor junior engineers.
