Job summary

Skyward Specialty is seeking a Claims Director in the United States to lead complex general liability claims across Construction, Crane, Mining and E&S lines. This senior individual contributor will determine coverage, evaluate reserves, and guide settlements with support from legal and defense teams.

The role requires extensive claims experience (15+ years) with strong analytical, negotiation, and project management abilities.

Qualifications

• Preferred Bachelor's degree; Insurance Designation and/or MBA desired.
• Minimum of 15 years of commercial general liability, excess and specialty lines claims experience or related insurance education.
• Extensive claims technical knowledge including products and industry; strong analytical and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure execution of proper claim handling strategies, including coverage determinations and claim resolutions.
• Ensure proper reserving in compliance with corporate policy.
• Manage litigation on claims, including strategizing with defense counsel and experts.
• Analyze coverage and prepare letters on complex matters with guidance from coverage counsel.
• Negotiate settlements and attend mediations, arbitrations, and trials where appropriate.
• Prepare Large Loss Reports, Reinsurance and Trial Alerts.
• Manage and control Loss Adjusting Expenses and related litigation costs.
• Identify trends from claim reports and assist with corrective strategies.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory and legal environments and apply it.
