Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a remote BESS Engineer III to design, implement, and optimize battery energy storage systems across projects nationwide. You will provide technical leadership, guide project teams, and ensure solutions meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements.

Responsibilities include overseeing design, procurement support, modelling, and commissioning activities, while collaborating with internal teams, vendors, and clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Master's preferred.
• 3+ years of electrical engineering experience focused on BESS, renewables, or power systems.
• Expertise in design, integration, and optimization of battery energy storage systems (lithium-ion, inverters, BMS).
• Knowledge of BESS control strategies and optimization software.
• Proficiency in power system analysis (PSS/E, PSCAD) and simulation tools.
• Strong knowledge of NEC, IEEE, IBC, NFPA, and utility standards.
• Understanding of grid operations and regulatory requirements (FERC 841, IEEE 1547).
• Familiarity with fire protection requirements (UL9540, NFPA855).
• Understanding of IEC 61850 communication protocols.
• Project management experience including budgeting, scheduling, risk management.
• Experience with EPC workflows and subcontractor coordination.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills; PE license preferred.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam; tracking logs and reports.

Responsibilities

• Serve as SME for BESS engineering scopes and guide project teams.
• Lead design and engineering of BESS, ensuring compliance with contracts and AHJ requirements.
• Review feasibility studies, site assessments, and sizing analyses for optimal BESS configurations.
• Collaborate across electrical, civil, structural, SCADA, and HV engineering scopes.
• Manage Engineers of Record and third-party partners for scope clarity and timely delivery.
• Coordinate with fire protection engineers and AHJs.
• Develop and review technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for procurement.
• Provide technical oversight during procurement including vendor reviews.
• Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to design, procure, install, and commission BESS systems.
• Oversee system modeling, simulation to optimize performance and reliability.
• Provide field engineering support during construction and commissioning.
• Mentor junior engineers and stay current with industry standards.
• Travel to support project execution as needed.
• Complete other responsibilities as assigned.
