Job summary

Mercy is seeking a senior benefits expert to lead the strategic design, analysis, and administration of health and welfare programs. This role drives complex initiatives, partners with HR and Finance, and mentors benefits teams to improve caregiver experience while maintaining cost controls.

Primary work is remote, but candidates must reside in the Metropolitan St. Louis area and be able to come onsite a few times per month for collaboration and governance meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in HR, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance, or related field required.
• Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in employee benefits administration, benefits consulting, or total rewards.
• Demonstrated expertise in health and welfare benefit plan design, administration, and compliance.
• Experience leading complex projects, vendor implementations, and organizational initiatives.
• Advanced analytical skills with experience evaluating benefit utilization, claims, and financial data.
• Experience working with Workday and large-scale HRIS platforms.
• Professional certifications such as CEBS, CBP, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic design, analysis, implementation, communication, and ongoing administration of health and welfare programs.
• Oversee complex benefit initiatives, vendor management, compliance reviews, and financial analyses.
• Collaborate with HR leaders, Finance, Legal, Payroll, and external vendors to optimize program effectiveness while balancing cost and compliance.
• Provide project leadership, consultation, and mentoring to Benefits Consultants and Analysts.
• Serve as a resource for regulatory changes and strategic initiatives affecting benefits.
