Job summary

Hims & Hers is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer to design and build scalable backend platforms powering patient and provider experiences. You will lead architecture, mentor peers, and drive performance, security, and reliability across distributed systems.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, advocate for technical needs, participate in product discovery, and contribute to platform strategy while elevating engineering standards and best practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years shipping production code as a software engineer.
• 3+ years backend distributed system design and delivery.
• 3+ years in microservice architectures.
• Bachelor's or higher in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Experience building scalable web apps in a cloud environment.
• Proficiency with Kubernetes and AWS for hosting and orchestration.
• CI/CD processes with unit and end-to-end tests.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and architecture of scalable, performant backend solutions.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship on best practices and coding standards.
• Advocate for the team’s technical needs within engineering.
• Participate in product discovery, feasibility, and prototyping.
• Collaborate across teams to ensure seamless integration of services.
• Contribute to the platform vision and strategic technical investments.
• Break down projects into actionable tasks and drive outcomes.
• Implement observability with logging, monitoring, and alerts.
• Elevate engineering standards by improving workflows and tools.
• Analyze metrics and feedback to drive optimization.
• Create architecture and development process documentation.
• Conduct code reviews and share knowledge across the team.
• Identify bottlenecks and propose performance enhancements.
• Stay current with industry trends and evaluate new tech.
• Contribute to interviewing and onboarding engineers.
• Provide constructive feedback and coaching to juniors.
