Job summary

Companion Group is a fully remote AAA co-development gaming studio delivering scalable backend services for multiplayer titles. You will design, develop and maintain backend systems to support cross‑platform play, matchmaking, and real‑time gameplay, collaborating with global teams.

We seek a Senior Backend Game Engineer with 5+ years in backend development, strong distributed systems knowledge, and expertise in C++, C#, Go or NodeJS. Remote, international teams, and competitive salary offered.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience, preferably in the game industry.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, data structures and algorithms (DSA).
• Excellent programming skills in two or more languages from the listed stack (C++, C#, Go, NodeJS).
• Experience with real-time networking, WebSockets, REST APIs and gRPC.

Responsibilities

• Be part of the technical design and implementation of backend systems for multiplayer online titles.
• Develop and optimise authentication, matchmaking, lobby systems and server orchestration.
• Architect high-performance backend services for real-time gameplay and low latency.
• Collaborate with network engineers, gameplay programmers, and DevOps teams to integrate features.
• Profile, optimise and scale backend services for reliability and cost-efficiency.
• Develop API services and microservices architectures for data exchange between clients and servers.
• Provide accurate development estimates, documentation and reporting for project planning.
