Job summary

Eleventh Hour Games is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to own core backend services for Last Epoch, focusing on game server hosting, matchmaking, inventories and economy, with reliability and scalability on Azure. You will design scalable APIs, drive architecture decisions, and mentor engineers across a fully remote, global team.

Ideal candidates have strong C# experience, hands-on Azure/AKS/CosmosDB, and a history of building distributed, real-time gameplay systems with a focus on performance

Qualifications

• 5+ years building online services with SLA requirements.
• Strong backend engineering experience in high-performance C#.
• Production Azure experience with AKS and CosmosDB.
• Experience building distributed, event-driven architectures.
• Deep understanding of data consistency, retries, and failures.
• Hands-on API design, performance tuning, and operations.
• Experience supporting real-time gameplay (sessions, matchmaking, inventories).
• Mentoring and setting technical standards across teams.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture of core backend systems for Last Epoch: gameplay services, state/inventory and economy workflows.
• Design and implement scalable APIs and event-driven pipelines.
• Build for high availability and performance on Azure (data storage, caching, queues, processing).
• Establish engineering standards for C# backend development and observability.
• Drive reliability through idempotency, graceful degradation, and incident response.
• Collaborate with design/product to translate gameplay requirements into robust solutions.
• Improve velocity via reviews, docs, and reusable frameworks; contribute to CI/CD and runbooks.
