Job summary

Pearson is hiring for an Associate, Scoring Services to remotely score NY teacher candidate responses for multiple subjects from our Malta, NY office.

The role requires current teaching credentials or recent relevant teaching experience, plus ability to work remotely and meet strict scoring standards. Training and orientation are provided, with scoring sessions Monday–Friday on an intermittent schedule.

Qualifications

• A current teaching certification in the subject area you are applying for AND are currently teaching or have taught in schools (public or private) within the last three years (including regular substitute)
• OR are or have been educators from colleges or universities who have taught or advised a content relevant field within the last three years
• OR hold a degree in the content area and have held professional employment in the content area within the last three years
• Both active and recently retired practitioners can be eligible to score.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate responses to test questions by New York teacher candidates
• Internalize scoring standards, participate in discussions, and engage with other scorers in consensus scoring activities
• Recognize and discuss various types of bias (e.g., implicit bias, cultural bias, leniency bias, central tendency bias, halo effect) and effect strategies to reduce personal biases in scoring
• Meet quality and productivity requirements established for the scoring program, including passing a qualifying test before scoring
