Job summary

GitLab is hiring an Intermediate Backend Engineer for the Knowledge Graph team in the United States. You will build and operate a Rust-based graph data service powering analytics across GitLab deployments, with a focus on reliability and scalability.

You’ll collaborate across the Data Insights Platform and GitLab Duo tooling, integrating services and contributing to the SDLC indexing and query paths. Remote-friendly role with strong emphasis on code quality.

Qualifications

• Hands-on backend experience with reliability and maintainability.
• Interest in Rust or ability to ramp quickly in a Rust-first codebase.
• Exposure to distributed data or analytics systems a plus.

Responsibilities

• Implement and iterate on backend features in the Rust-based Knowledge Graph service.
• Maintain integrations with the Data Insights Platform and other GitLab components.
• Contribute to scalable, reliable analytical graph workloads and architecture decisions.
• Improve observability with metrics, logging, and runbooks; participate in on-call rotation.
• Collaborate with product, data, infrastructure, security, and AI teams to ship safely.
