Job summary

GitLab is seeking an Intermediate Backend Engineer to contribute to the Knowledge Graph service, a Rust-based backend that powers analytics and SDLC data processing. You’ll work on query paths, SDLC indexing, and API endpoints, while ensuring reliability and observability across the platform.

You’ll collaborate with AI tools and internal Duo tooling, participate in code reviews, and potentially touch Rails integration and frontend work related to Knowledge Graph features.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in backend development with a focus on reliability and maintainability.
• Rust-first coding with demonstrated ability to ramp quickly in a Rust-centric stack.
• Exposure to distributed data or analytics systems (OLAP, Kafka/NATS, CDC).
• Interest in graph data modeling and property graphs; willingness to learn Knowledge Graph tooling.

Responsibilities

• Implement and iterate on backend features in the Knowledge Graph service (Rust).
• Maintain integrations between Knowledge Graph and the broader platform (Rails, Data Insights Platform, NATS, ClickHouse).
• Contribute to system design discussions with a focus on reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
