GitLab is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer for the Orbit team to build and scale a knowledge graph data service that supports agents, analytics, and architecture-level features across deployments. You will join a small, senior, Rust-first team focused on backend services in a distributed, cloud-native system.

You’ll own parts of the service end-to-end, design and implement data workflows, and contribute to cloud infrastructure and runbooks to improve reliability and efficiency.

Qualificações

• Experience designing, building, and operating production backend services with Rust or ability to ramp quickly.
• Distributed-system design experience including concurrency and multi-tenant isolation.
• Hands-on knowledge of AWS, GCP including IAM, compute, storage, and S3-like services.
• Kubernetes with Helm deployment and Terraform for infrastructure as code.
• Ability to improve reliability, observability, and on-call readiness of backend services.
• Strong system design and autonomous, problem-solving mindset.
• Willingness to learn new languages and collaborate asynchronously across teams.

Responsabilidades

• Design, build, and operate GitLab Orbit backend services, primarily in Rust, in a distributed cloud-native environment.
• Improve deployment, monitoring, and operations across GitLab.com, Dedicated, and Self-Managed deployments using Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, and cloud services (AWS/GCP).
• Automate recurring operational work and build tools to make deployments, upgrades, recovery, capacity management, and maintenance safer and more efficient.
• Strengthen observability across application, data, orchestration, and infrastructure layers with metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerts, and SLI; collaborate with SRE teams.
• Investigate production issues, address root causes, and write backend code addressing concurrency, retries, idempotency, and multi-tenant isolation.
• Build and improve the graph query engine, SDLC, code indexing pipelines, cloud storage integrations, and API/MCP surfaces.
• Design reliable data workflows using S3, ClickHouse, NATS, and Siphon.
• Own changes from design to rollout, documenting constraints and trade-offs while collaborating with product, data, infrastructure, security, Delivery, AI, and SRE teams.
