Job summary

Rex.zone in the United States is seeking a Robot Controls Engineer to design and tune control algorithms that drive robotic behavior, including motion control, state estimation, and trajectory tracking. You will validate performance through simulation, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and on-robot experiments to ensure safe and repeatable operation.

The role emphasizes real-time constraints, sensor fusion, and integration with embedded systems, as well as rigorous testing plans.

Qualifications

  • Mid-Senior experience in robot controls or control systems engineering.
  • Strong fundamentals in control theory, robotics dynamics/kinematics, and state estimation.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and/or Python for controls implementation and tooling.
  • Experience with real-time systems and performance profiling for control loops.
  • Hands-on experience with sensors and actuators (encoders, IMUs, motors, servo drives).
  • Familiarity with ROS/ROS2 or comparable robotics middleware.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and tune feedback controllers (PID; LQR/MPC where applicable).
  • Develop trajectory generation and trajectory tracking pipelines.
  • Build state estimation using sensor fusion and filtering (e.g., Kalman filters).
  • Integrate controls with embedded and real-time constraints (latency, jitter, compute limits).
  • Validate controller performance in simulation and on hardware using structured test plans.
  • Collaborate on sensor/actuator integration, calibration, and bring-up.
  • Define safety interlocks and fault-handling behaviors aligned with robotics safety requirements.
  • Document control parameters, tuning procedures, and test results.
