Marqeta is seeking a Software Engineer II to join the Core Edge Processing team. You will write production code for core payment processing systems that route and authorize transactions, and contribute to cryptographic infrastructure in a real-time, always-on environment.

The role supports a remote work model within Canada and emphasizes learning from senior engineers, growing in Java and distributed systems, and delivering high-quality software that impacts transaction success.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong Java fundamentals and interest in deepening knowledge.
• Comfortable debugging and troubleshooting production issues with team support.
• Eager to learn distributed systems and payment processing.
• Strong communication and receptiveness to feedback.

Responsibilities

• Ship production code across the routing and processing stack.
• Own well-scoped features and bug fixes end-to-end, from design to production.
• Join on-call rotation and incident response for live systems.
• Grow Java, distributed systems, and payment processing skills through hands-on work.
• Collaborate with senior/staff engineers to expand technical scope.
