Job summary

Marqeta, Inc. seeks a Principal Software Engineer to own the technical roadmap for the core platform and drive high-impact projects from design to delivery.

You will write and review code in the issuing and processing stack, improve reliability and latency, and collaborate with product to translate requirements into scalable designs. Mentoring and cross-region production experience are expected.

Qualifications

• 12+ years hands-on engineering, still coding.
• Real-time transactional system experience with tight latency budgets.
• Ownership of a system with high reliability and fault tolerance.
• Experience across multiple regions and production operations.
• Strong JVM fundamentals and modern cloud stack experience.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical roadmap for core platform and author system designs.
• Write, review, and optimize code across issuing and processing stack.
• Drive reliability, latency, and cost improvements for core engines.
• Partner with Product to translate requirements into scalable designs.
• Mentor leads, influence stakeholders, and set engineering metrics.
