Job summary

Marqeta is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Core Edge Processing team. You will write and review production code at the heart of our processing systems, driving initiatives to make them faster and more reliable in a real-time payment infrastructure.

The role is remote within Canada, with a chance to mentor engineers, shape designs, and work on complex, critical codebases in a cloud-native, high-availability environment. Strong Java and experience in payments are essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• Strong Java fundamentals in concurrency and performance.
• Experience designing and reviewing production systems.

Responsibilities

• Ship and refine production code for routing and processing stack.
• Lead initiatives to improve reliability, speed, and cost efficiency.
• Shape system designs and govern data models, failure strategies, and blast-radius containment.
• Tackle complex codebases and raise engineering standards.
• Mentor engineers and guide technical direction at Staff level.
