Job summary

Ampirical’s remote-based Protection and Control Engineer role focuses on designing and validating relay protection schemes for transmission and distribution substations. You’ll select devices, size equipment, and prepare detailed drawings and scopes while ensuring compliance with client standards and industry regulations.

You will collaborate with internal teams and external clients, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to project execution from design to commissioning.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering degree required.
• PE license required.
• 5+ years of protection and control design experience in utilities/energy.

Responsibilities

• Identify protection and control schemes for substations.
• Select protection devices and size equipment; procure materials.
• Prepare scopes, estimates, and drawings (one-line, diagrams).
• Perform load calculations for panels and battery systems.
• Ensure adherence to standards and regulations for relay protection.
• Provide field support for turnkey substation projects.
• Interface with clients and vendors to ensure alignment.
• Mentor junior engineers and support design processes.
