Ampirical is seeking a Substation Engineering Supervisor to lead relay protection and substation design for transmission and distribution projects in California.

You’ll mentor staff, prepare scopes of work and drawings, perform power system studies, and verify protection settings with ASPEN, ETAP, and AcSELerator, while coordinating with clients and vendors. This role also includes field support and design reviews, with growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
• 8+ years of substation design experience in the electric utility industry.

Responsabilités

• Supervise, mentor, and train engineering staff in relay protection and substation design.
• Identify and implement protection and control schemes for transmission and distribution substations.
• Prepare scopes of work, estimates, and conceptual designs for substation projects.
• Create and review drawing packages including wiring diagrams, schematics, protection panels, one-line and three-line diagrams.
• Conduct power system studies including short-circuit analysis, coordination, and relay loadability.
• Utilize software tools (ASPEN, ETAP, AcSELerator) to develop and validate protection settings.
• Perform load calculations for panels, battery systems, and voltage drop.
• Support field personnel during construction and pre-inspection of turnkey substation projects.
