Job summary

Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company is seeking a Field Claims Specialist III, Property to cover Northern VA and surrounding areas. This work-from-home role involves day travel to policy locations, occasional overnight travel, and CAT duty. Ideal candidates reside in Northern VA or nearby; relocation assistance may be available for distant candidates.

You will resolve complex property claims, estimate costs, and negotiate settlements while upholding Nationwide's service standards.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of insurance field/property claims handling or adjusting experience.
• Solid experience with Xactimate and writing estimates from start to finish.
• Construction background: residential, roofing, remodeling, water mitigation.
• Strong customer service, written and verbal communication skills.
• CAT duty is a requirement of this role.

Responsibilities

• Handle assigned claims promptly with minimal direction, including complex losses.
• Determine policy coverages and apply standard methodologies per guidelines.
• Open/close reserves and manage file conferencing notifications and authority.
• Maintain knowledge of insurance lines and local repair procedures.
• Provide leadership and mentoring to less experienced claim staff.
• Collaborate with SIU and Subrogation to identify fraud or subrogation.
• Deliver outstanding customer service to Nationwide customers.
