Job summary

Highland Electric Fleets is seeking a Project Development Associate I to deliver fully developed projects in preparation for customer contracts. You will collaborate with Legal, Finance, and Market Development to meet underwriting requirements and manage external engineers to finalize site designs.

The role reports to the Manager, Project Development and offers remote work in California with travel expectations of about 20%. Growth into a more autonomous role is expected over time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of directly related professional experience.
• Experience working with electric utilities is preferred.
• Exposure to EV charging, renewable energy, or related clean energy technologies.
• Experience in electrical engineering, construction, or infrastructure project development.
• Experience interacting with AHJs or regulatory bodies.
• PM experience in engineering/construction environments.

Responsibilities

• Support senior associates and managers in establishing fleet electrification scopes of work for projects in development.
• Work with engineering teams to develop designs for complex EV charging depot projects, including solar and battery storage components.
• Contribute to estimating engineering, construction, and interconnection costs for project budgets.
• Coordinate the project site diligence process, including real estate, zoning, and permitting.
• Help define permitting requirements and support related engineering deliverables.
• Assist in identifying utility requirements and communicate with utility representatives.
• Assist in managing projects through design and engineering phases, tracking schedules and budgets.
• Support handoff to project implementation teams upon contract execution.
• Contribute to work scoping methodology and documentation improvements.
