Job summary

The Motley Fool is seeking a Product Tech Lead to guide a fast-paced engineering team building scalable web applications for millions of users. You’ll lead hands-on technical leadership, people management, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver high-quality products and platforms.

You will drive architecture and design decisions, collaborate with product and design, and foster best practices for reliability, performance, and developer productivity.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience building highly performant web applications.
• Experience leading engineering teams or serving in a technical leadership capacity.
• Strong proficiency in React, Next.js, TypeScript, GraphQL and REST APIs.
• Experience with Django and Python development.
• Experience designing scalable system architectures and making long-term technical decisions.
• Experience working closely with product managers, designers, and business stakeholders.
• Experience with AWS and cloud-native application development.
• Experience with sophisticated application state management, such as Apollo Client or Redux.
• Experience with Docker, containerization, CI/CD pipelines, and modern development workflows.
• Proven track record leading high-performing engineering teams and delivering complex technical initiatives.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
• Familiarity with AI-driven development workflows, automation, and developer productivity tooling.
• Strong understanding of security, reliability, and performance best practices in modern web development.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor developers through regular 1:1s, coaching, technical guidance, and career development support.
• Drive technical architecture and engineering decisions across products and platforms, balancing scalability, performance, maintainability, and business goals.
• Lead technical discussions, planning sessions, and solution design reviews across engineering and cross-functional teams.
• Partner closely with product, design, leadership, and stakeholders to align technical strategy with roadmap priorities and long-term business objectives.
• Develop and maintain modern web applications.
• Establish and promote engineering best practices, focusing on code quality, system reliability, observability, performance, and sustainable development practices.
• Facilitate technical feedback through code reviews, pair programming, architecture reviews, and collaborative problem-solving.
• Coordinate and communicate effectively with stakeholders, providing visibility into technical initiatives, risks, trade-offs, and delivery timelines.
• Support delivery planning, prioritization, and execution while helping teams navigate ambiguity and evolving requirements.
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted development, agentic workflows, and automation to improve engineering efficiency and developer experience.
