Job summary

The Motley Fool is seeking a Tech Lead for Fool.com and Motley Fool Money to anchor engineering for two high-visibility platforms. You will set technical direction while writing code, mentoring engineers, and owning production reliability.

You will collaborate with product and design to translate business goals into technical strategy and lead AI initiatives. The role is remote within the United States, with opportunities to influence a fast-growing tech stack and editorial workflows.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering, with at least 2 years in a tech lead or senior+ capacity.
• Fluent in Python and have production experience in Django; Wagtail a plus.
• You can navigate a Next.js codebase; frontend exposure not required but not a black box.
• Deep understanding of HTTP request/response, REST API design, and web app end-to-end.
• Experience with AWS services and modern observability tooling (Datadog, Sentry) in production.
• Track record mentoring and growing engineers—not just technically, but as people.
• Experience integrating AI/LLM capabilities into production applications, or building toward it.
• Bonus: experience leading high-traffic consumer web platforms; familiarity with CI/CD (GitHub Actions) and Playwright testing

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction for Fool.com and Motley Fool Money, balancing velocity and long-term code health.
• Stay hands-on: coding, reviewing PRs, and pairing with your team daily.
• Mentor and grow your direct reports through 1:1s and technical coaching.
• Own production reliability: incident response, observability, monitoring and alerting.
• Partner with product, design, marketing, and leadership to translate business goals into technical strategy.
• Drive AI integration in production features and in how the team builds software.
• Maintain and evolve engineering standards, deployment processes, and tooling.
• Collaborate across units to align technical decisions with company direction.
