Job summary

The Motley Fool is seeking a Tech Lead to anchor two major platforms—Fool.com and Motley Fool Money. You will set technical direction, keep production healthy, and elevate the engineers around you.

You’ll code hands-on, review PRs, mentor teammates, own reliability, and collaborate with product, design, and marketing. You’ll drive AI integration and evolve the stack in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a tech lead or senior+ capacity.
• Fluent in Python with real production experience in Django; Wagtail is a plus.
• Proficiency with Next.js and front-end integration; understanding of HTTP, REST, and web app architecture.
• Experience with AWS services and modern observability tooling (Datadog, Sentry).
• Track record of mentoring and growing engineers, including career conversations.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction for Fool.com and Motley Fool Money, balancing product velocity with long-term code health.
• Stay hands-on: write code, review PRs, and pair with your team daily.
• Mentor and grow engineers through 1:1s and technical coaching.
• Own production reliability: incident response, observability, monitoring, and alerting.
• Collaborate with product, design, marketing, and leadership to translate business goals into tech strategy.
• Drive AI integration in production features and in development practices.
• Maintain engineering standards and deployment tooling; ensure reliable shipping.
