Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to set technical direction for enterprise platforms that deliver embedded software for software-defined vehicles. This role spans embedded, cloud, simulation, cybersecurity, and supplier ecosystems.

You will lead cross‑domain architecture, advise executive leadership, and mentor senior engineers while maintaining a hands‑on focus on high‑value problems. This role is remote with periodic GM hub reporting requirements.

Qualifications

15+ years of software/architecture experience across organizations.
Experience defining enterprise CI/CD architecture and release policies.
Strong leadership of principal/staff engineers and cross-functional teams.
Proficiency in Python and at least one additional programming language.

Responsibilities

Define multi-year roadmaps and future-state architecture for cross-domain platforms.
Lead architecture reviews and technical communities across embedded, cloud, and validation.
Advise executives on investment choices and platform health.
Sponsor platform capabilities and self-service tooling to improve outcomes.
Mentor engineers and strengthen leadership pipelines.
Represent GM's technical direction with internal and external partners.
