Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Security Software Engineer to join the Security Products Engineering team. You will drive design and implementation of security-focused software and services across GM, leading platforms and tooling for secure-by-default experiences.

You’ll work hands-on, designing systems, coding, reviewing designs, and embedding security across GM’s SDLC with a strong emphasis on architecture and automation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in a technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 7+ years building and owning production systems or in-house apps.
• Proficiency in at least one modern language (Python/Go/Java/C++).
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools in daily workflows.
• Experience on major cloud platforms with IaC and managed services.
• Hands-on with containers and orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes).
• Strong security fundamentals applied to software engineering.
• Agile, with ability to own features from design to production.
• Strong written and verbal communication for diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain security-focused software components and services.
• Develop automation frameworks and internal platforms for secure patterns.
• Integrate security controls into CI/CD and cloud deployment workflows.
• Architect scalable security services and APIs (authn/authz, policy).
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to embed security requirements.
• Perform secure code reviews, threat modeling, and SDLC security reviews.
• Build telemetry systems for logging, metrics, and alerts.
• Contribute to incident response and post-incident reviews as an owner.
• Stay current with threats and translate to engineering roadmaps.
• Mentor engineers on secure coding and security architecture.
