Job summary

Vertical Mechanical Group (VMG) is seeking a results-driven Preconstruction Executive to lead our preconstruction and estimating efforts for commercial mechanical projects. You will shape the project pipeline, guide pursuit strategies, and strengthen client and partner relationships at the executive level.

This senior role demands deep expertise in HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical systems, with a track record in design-build, GMP development, and large-scale negotiations.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of commercial mechanical construction with leadership in preconstruction or estimating.
• Experience leading estimating, preconstruction, or project pursuit functions.
• Deep knowledge of commercial HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical systems.
• Strong design-build, negotiated work, conceptual estimating, GMP development experience.
• Proven ability to develop and execute pursuit and pricing strategies.
• Understanding of costs, labor, material pricing, and project risk.
• Proven client-facing experience including presentations and negotiations.
• Executive-level leadership, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to build relationships across executives, operations, and clients.
• Proficiency with estimating software, preconstruction tech, and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Lead preconstruction strategy across HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical projects.
• Pursue strategic opportunities and manage pricing and risk.
• Build client relationships with owners, developers, GCs, architects, and engineers.
• Oversee conceptual estimates, cost models, budgets, and GMP development.
• Collaborate with executive leadership and operations to align pipeline with capabilities.
