Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Power Delivery - Project Manager to lead high voltage substation and transmission line projects, coordinating technical work, schedules, budgets, and client relationships. This role is based in Houston, with remote work flexibility and travel to client sites as needed.

You will guide project teams, manage risks, and ensure QA/QC across the lifecycle, from proposal through closeout, within WSP’s Power Delivery services in the Southwest region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field.
• 12 years of relevant post-education experience in a project management role within the Power Delivery/Utility Industry
• Minimum of 5 years applicable industry experience working and/or providing engineering services for IOUs, IPPs, Co-Ops, Munis, Construction Contractors, etc.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience leading engineering and/or construction teams on medium to large electrical utility scale clients for high voltage and/or extra high voltage substation and/or transmission line type projects.
• Knowledge and experience with project management processes and tools including Contract Management, External and Internal Team Meeting Management, Earned Value Management, Change Management, Risk Management, Schedule Management (Primavera P6 or equivalent), Financial Management.
• Highly proficient understanding of project delivery process within the Power Delivery/Utility industry and strong background and experience in project management.
• Advanced proficiency with analytical and organizational skills, with business acumen to bridge the business and project management.
• Advanced proficiency with critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with a sound understanding of intent, impact, and outcomes.
• Advanced proficiency with interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with leadership, subcontractors, and employees at all levels.
• Excellent self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and adjusting readily to changing priorities in a dynamic work environment.
• Works independently and provides guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
• Advanced proficiency with technical writing, MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), and PM tools.
• Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, subcontractors, consultants, and company-wide staff.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s policies.
• Strong ability to adapt to change and accommodate various schedules; occasional travel is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide PM leadership for HV and EHV Substation and/or Transmission Line projects, overseeing detailed design, budgets, forecasts, margins and KPIs.
• Develop strategies to engage stakeholders at all levels, maintain relationships, and report progress.
• Lead pursuit activities including Go/No-Go decisions, contract reviews, and risk mitigation discussions.
• May participate in or lead contract negotiations and client presentations.
• Drive appropriate technical reviews and ensure QA/QC adherence across projects.
• Provide inputs to multi-disciplinary teams and advise clients on high-level strategic issues.
• Manage and mentor assigned staff and ensure effective collaboration across teams.
• Ensure documentation updates to Risk, PMP, QP, PSP, and Communications Plan.
• Lead kickoff meetings and coordinate resources/subcontracting needs.
• Maintain regular client communications including monthly status, safety incidents, and budget impacts.
• Oversee problem project reviews and develop recovery plans.
• Ensure timely project reporting to clients and internal stakeholders.
• Complete formal closeout activities and document lessons learned.
• Collaborate with diverse professionals to deliver trusted, future-ready solutions.
• Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and policies, and exercise ethical decision-making.
